Maricopa County Dems React to Capitol Building Mob Violence
The Maricopa County Democratic Party (MCDP) Executive Board calls on Democratic and Republican lawmakers to urge the Vice President to invoke the 25th Amendment.
PHOENIX – The MCDP Executive Board releases the following:
The events that unfolded yesterday afternoon left us speechless, shocked, and dumbfounded.
To see our nation’s capitol building seized by a group of thugs was shocking and revolting. Let’s be clear – those who descended on capitol hill with the intent to cause chaos, violence, and destruction are nothing more than domestic terrorists who should face severe punishment before our nation’s laws.
MCDP looks forward to an investigation into why this insurrection occurred. Still, we wish to thank all Capitol Police and first responders who took action to protect our nation’s lawmakers inside the capitol compound. We also express our sincere gratitude to all Arizona Democrats who stood for democracy and became advocates for election results certification.
We strongly denounce the actions of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ). They actively sought to undermine our democracy by objecting to Arizona’s electoral votes. Despite their foolish effort to overturn the will of Arizona voters, our democracy prevailed. Overnight, the 2020 General Election results have been certified, ensuring Joe Biden will become the next President of the United States.
Further, per our nation’s principles, we demand those responsible for inciting violence to be held accountable. That is why we stand with lawmakers in urging the Vice President to invoke the 25th Amendment on the current President. This individual cannot continue to carry out duties as President of the United States.
This republic is the shining beacon of freedom for the rest of the world. In America, democracy triumphs over evil, and love defeats hate. Together, as Americans, we will overcome the hatred and division the current president has sowed.
As we welcome Joe Biden into the White House, we must demand accountability for those who fueled this violent mob attack on one of our nation’s most sacred institutions.
The Maricopa County Democratic Party (MCDP) works to elect Democrats across Maricopa County. We recruit, train, and promote Democratic candidates to ensure Democratic values shape policy across the county and state.
