Treasurer Vacancy
Duties: The Treasurer shall receive all monies of the organization, giving receipt therefore, and shall deposit them in such bank or banks as shall be designated by the Executive Board. The Treasurer shall disburse the funds of the organization in the manner approved by the Executive Committee and shall keep a record of all receipts and disbursements and shall make a monthly report thereof. The Treasurer shall give bond for the faithful discharge of his/her duties in such sum as shall be required by the Executive Committee. The Treasurer shall register the district as a continuing political organization and prepare and submit the required financial reports to the Secretary of State. The Treasurer shall be removed from office for dishonesty, malfeasance, or the failure to timely perform statutorily required duties. No Treasurer shall permit an unlawful political contribution.
If interested in running for Treasurer:Please submit your headshot & bio (bio can be submitted in video format (2 minutes) or text) by end of day, Wednesday, June 21st to info@maricopadems.org. This will be the only opportunity for PCs to learn more about you before the convention. Due to formatting capabilities, there will be no formal speeches provided at the Summer Convention. If you decide to run the day of, only your name will appear on screen.
MCDP will be sending headshots, bios, and potential videos on Friday, June 23rd to PCs so they can familiarize themselves with the candidates before the convention. Candidates
Richard G. Newhauser
Richard G. Newhauser (Ph.D. University of Pennsylvania), Professor of English and Medieval Studies at Arizona State University. In his academic profession he is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and is the General Editor of The Chaucer Encyclopedia (4 vols., Wiley Blackwell, 2023). He has worked to help elect Democrats since arriving in Arizona in 2007. He was the Treasurer of the LD26 Democrats (before redistricting) and is the current Treasurer of the LD8 Democrats. In 2022, he helped organize canvassing and designed voter guide posters for use on Election Day that supported Democratic candidates up and down the ballot. He is also the Treasurer of the Democracy for Tempe PAC (Tempe 1st) and serves on the finance committee in his union: United Campus Workers of Arizona (CWA Local 7065).
